Welcome to

Swanland School PTA

Find out more about our PTA, what we do, what we have achieved and how you can get involved!

Swanland School PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is a non-profit organisation made up of parents and staff with the role to encourage closer links between home and school.  We are probably known for our fundraising work which provides an opportunity for parents, staff, and children to get together.

Swanland Primary School PTA is a registered Charity and we are a group of volunteers who are dedicated to raising money and make a difference to our School so that our children can have the best educational opportunities possible, even when the school budget is not available to pay for it.

We work closely together with the teachers to identify what the children at Swanland School need and during the past few years, Swanland School PTA has done extremely well running lots of events, and with great help and support, have raised incredible sums of money which has enriched the lives of its children.

Our main goals for 2019-2020 are to raise £5,000 to support technology ventures.  We hope to purchase another 16 new laptops and a storage cabinet.  This will give the school a full class set making sure the children have the opportunity to acquire and develop their PC knowedge and skills throughout their school journey.  We would also like to raise in the region of £1,000 to refurbish the multi-cultural kitchen where the children enjoy cooking and tasting sessions to fit around their topics.

We have an AGM (Annual General Meeting) held in September and then set out aims and priorities for the three terms of the academic calendar.  We usually meet twice a term and set up smaller working groups to organise individual events.  Why not come along to find out more?

We encourage as many parents as possible to get in touch and get involved.  You may wish to join the PTA committee, become a Class Rep or, if you feel you do not have time for that, you can become one of our event volunteers. We usually need a bit more help at our larger fundraising events – the Christmas Fayre and the Summer Fayre.

To keep you up to date we produce a monthly newsletter and if you haven’t done so already, you can sign up on the PTA Events website so you are ready to purchase tickets for future events and join our Facebook Group.

We thank you for all the support you have given over the years and we thank you in advance for supporting the upcoming fundraising activities.

The PTA is a great opportunity to meet other parents and get involved in supporting the school so if you wish to be a part of the PTA, or have any questions then please contact our Secretary on [email protected]

We have Committee Members (who are elected to run the PTA), Class Reps and a larger group of volunteers who help whenever they can.

Class Reps

Reps provide a great communication channel between the PTA committee, the school, and parents on the playground.

Rather than feeling that the PTA is distant and cliquey, we hope that parents will feel closer to the committee with a face-to-face approach.

JOB DESCRIPTION OF A CLASS REP

  • Pass on information from the PTA to other parents in their child’s class and encourage parents to support the PTA
  • At least one rep per class to attend the AGM and PTA committee meetings
  • Coordinate volunteers to help with fundraising activities
  • Seek feedback from parents on PTA events or funding requests and pass it on to the committee
  • Recruit a new class rep if/when they choose to step down (encourage reps to sign up in pairs – tasks seem less daunting with a friend by your side!)

Thanks to the support of the PTA, friends, and families of Swanland Primary School, we were able to donate a massive £18,271.91 to the School in 2018-2019!  Click here for further details.

Over the years we have funded or donated towards:

Production lights in the main hall, the Astro Turf field, new library books, outdoor playground equipment for KS1, sports equipment, IT equipment including tablets, Class Budget Enhancements, Theatre Trips, Yr. 6 Leavers Party, Pantomime, Multi-Cultural Workshops, Yoga Mats, Poetry Workshops, Reading Books, SeeSaw App, Lego, Gardening Club, Yr. 6 Homework Support Booklets, as well as the Praise and Reward scheme, part-funding school trips, outdoor climbing frame and much, much more!

We try to offer a varied calendar of events throughout the year to make sure we can raise enough funds to make a difference to our school and our children.  We organise activities that appeal to children of all ages and their families.  All PTA events depend on volunteers to support, plan, and run each event.

Keep a look out on our PTA Events website for all details, and follow us on our Facebook Group for alerts and information.

Some events are open to the public so we encourage you to bring along friends and family who will love to see and support where the children go to school and have some fun at the same time!!

Our events include:

Bag2School, Christmas Cards, Christmas Fayre, Easter Egg Giveaway, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Shops, Family Bingo, Fashion Show, Race Night, Quiz Night, Sports Day refreshments, Summer Fayre, Swanland Has Talent, Winter Disco and Nearly New Uniform Sales.

PTA Events Website (events information and online payment system)

You can pay online for Swanland School PTA events – register on our PTA Events website and once you verify the account,  you’ll be able to login and pay for any event listed.

Our PTA depends on a continual cycle of parent involvement.  As children reach their final year and leave, so do their parents.  The PTA is a mixture of parents that work together for the benefit of our school.  Some are full-time parents, some work part-time or work full-time. NONE of us are specialists in fundraising.  Taking an active role with the PTA is critical to your children’s success.

As you can imagine it takes a lot of effort to put on events and raise money.  We encourage as many parents to get in touch and get involved, whether it’s contributing ideas in a planning meeting, spending half-an-hour manning a stall, subscribing to the monthly Lottery, helping us manage our events online, wrapping some gifts at Christmas or helping at an event here and there, we have a variety of small and large tasks we need help with.

We often post volunteer requests on PTA Events website or via a link called Sign Up Genius, but in the meantime if you’re interested please email the PTA Secretary at [email protected]

The equipment and resources the PTA helps fund, make learning even more engaging.  Please get involved and help us continue to create lasting memories for our children!  It is lots of fun, you get to work with great people and help your school!

As parents, we all know that no sooner have we bought new uniform that they have already outgrown it, and it still looks as good as new!  That is why the PTA has a Nearly New Uniform scheme, offering items of uniform in good condition at bargain prices.

Any donations of good quality uniform to replenish our stock would be very much appreciated so if you have any outgrown uniform you cannot use, please send it into school.

Sales normally take place at parents’ evenings and at the new intake evening.  It is amazing how much we raise from this even though we just ask for a donation of £1!

If you cannot wait for one of our sales, drop us a note on our Facebook page or pop it on an email to [email protected] or speak with your Class Rep.

We want to take this opportunity to inform you about the Match Funding scheme and how a little bit of your time could raise double the funds for the PTA.

If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer.  Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on.

We understand that the high street banks, building societies, supermarkets and large corporations are likely to do match funding, but these schemes are not exclusive to the major corporate giants.  If you work for an independent company, they may be interested in charitable giving through match funding too.

We would be grateful if you could see if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match fund any of our events.

If you can help us this way, please let our PTA Secretary [email protected] know and we can discuss your company’s requirements.

Thank you for your support.

We recognise that there are some parents who, although they wish to support our fundraising activities, they simply have not got the time to volunteer or attend the events.  Therefore, in response to requests from parents, we give the option for you to donate to the PTA.  Donations are voluntary.

We suggest one annual donation of £25 per family.  Others may choose to give a small amount monthly.

If you are interested, ask for a Standing Order form by emailing [email protected]

Please include Gift Aid if you are a taxpayer as this allows us to claim back an additional 25p for every £1 given.

Thank you to the families that have already kindly donated.

Swanland School PTA Facebook Group

We have created a group on Facebook, currently we have over 200 members!

It is a ‘closed’ group, which means that anyone can find the group and see who is in it but only members can see the posts.

You have to request to join it and PTA admin has to ‘accept’ your request.

This way we can ensure that only people linked to our school can become members.

Please find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/SwanlandSchoolPTA/ and press ‘Join Group’.
